How Do You Define "Blessing"?

The Word "Surely your goodness and love will follow me

all the days of my life,

and I will dwell in the house of the Lord

forever (Psalm 23:6)."

Talk it Out When we rest beside His quiet waters, it's easy to believe that His goodness and love will follow us always. Yet, the Psalmist, on the tail-end of a trek through Death Valley, declares of God, "your beauty and love chase after me every day of my life (Psalm 23:6, MSG)."

We are quick to equate fruitful seasons with blessing. We figure God's forgotten us when our world turns upside down and inside out. In the darkness, we look for God's beauty and love and perceive it not. Unless we look again with renewed sight. Indeed, if what the Psalmist says is true, then our perception of God's "beauty and love" must be challenged.

Why limit God's blessing to only good days and calm seas? Why stop at the obvious?

If God's taught me anything through this season and this psalm it's that He's the blessing. He is our Shepherd, our refreshment, our right path, our companion and guide. He is our blessing. He is the beauty and love that follows us. Always.

No circumstance. No season of plenty. No season of sorrow can change that. Praise God!

Walk it Out Take a second look at a less-than-pleasant reality; how can you perceive God's beauty and love?
